CHOP attacked & King County Courts

There are so many updates:

CHOP Updates: A press conference was held on June 22nd:

The City of Seattle is forcing the shutdown of CHOP. The City and SPD are using the shooting as justification. Read The Stranger Article

There is a twitter thread which outlines the City’s intentional acts in re the shooting. The Fire Department refused to meet at the designated area. There are few threads more powerful than this in re intentional government action which harms community. They operate only to maintain power. Lorenzo should still be alive.

Facts to note:

  • Ambulances did not respond to the predetermined location.

  • Police arrived after the 2 wounded community were transported to the hospital. Ambulances didn't.

  • The cops were not stopped from entering. They arrived after community already transported the wounded. The City didn't follow the plan. Someone died.

  • The City forced a path through CHOP which opened up the area to car traffic. The shooting was a drive by.

This is the thread with the minute by minute & video regarding CHOP medics trying to engage with SFD. It's devastating to see SFD act with such ambivalence as Lorenzo is dying:  View on Twitter

With the City’s plan to take back CHOP, there’s an expectation of more arrests of protesters. Consider the issue of the City’s intentional actions, which resulted in the death of a community member. Consider how this Black life is being leveraged to destroy CHOP. Consider how police presence did not stop a shooting from happening previously.

King County Superior Court is planning to ramp up:

They are not consulting with a race equity consultant in re their policies and how they impact BIPOC.

They are currently battling with the Department of Public Defense in an attempt to force the over worked Public Defenders office to take more cases. The problem is there are well established rules regarding case load limits. DPD attorneys are constantly working at capacity even with the rules.
