Free Palestine: Sea-Tac 46 Protest Representation Update April 2024-August 2024

On April 15, 2024, concerned community members staged a protest on Airport Way in Sea-Tac, calling out the US enablement & perpetuation of the genocide in Gaza, by Israel and their settler colonial occupational forces. This action coincided with actions all over the nation. Ultimately, 46 people were arrested after over two hours of protesting. The City of SeaTac charged people exercising their right to protest, and advocating against the genocidal collaboration between the US government and Israeli occupation forces, with disorderly conduct and failure to disperse. Smith Law represented one protester. From May 2024 to August 2024, Smith Law multiple officers as part of the investigation. Several motions were filed by the defense contesting the constitutionality of the charges, the lack of counsel provided to several indigent accused persons, ex parte communications, prosecutorial interference with the defense interviews, and other issues.

In August, 2024, the cases resolved with an agreement that the City would immediately dismiss the charges in exchange for 10 hours of community service, or dismiss the charges after 3 months without the completion of community service hours.
